Keep a weekly report that does not go stale

Most weekly reports are rebuilt from scratch: export, chart, paste the chart, retype the numbers in the sentences, notice one is wrong, fix it, send. The second week is as much work as the first, which is why the fourth week does not happen.

Set it up once

1. Put the data somewhere it will be again next week: a Google Sheet you link, or a file you replace on the same card.
2. Ask the questions the report is about and add the charts.
3. Write the words around them, using Add the number for every figure so that no number in the prose is typed by hand.
4. Share the link once. The people you sent it to always see the current version.

Every week after that

1. Press Refresh, or replace the data.
2. Read what moved: you are shown what each named number was and what it is now.
3. Change the sentences whose meaning changed. The figures have already changed themselves.

What this is not

It is not automation: nobody writes the conclusion for you, and you should not want that. The judgement is the part worth your time, and it is the part that gets squeezed out when three quarters of the hour goes on rebuilding charts.

It is also not a dashboard. A dashboard shows everything and says nothing. A report makes a point, and shows the working behind it.
